Wednesday - Daily Prayers

Wednesday Prayers

Take a moment to listen to the still small voice of God within the bustle of the day which has begun. Find a quiet place where you can enjoy precious moments of peace in God's presence. Sit quietly and listen to the sounds of the world around you, both outside and in the place where you are. Breathe slowly and rest in God's presence......

Lord of the morning
of dawn chorus
rising sun
mist on water
day begun
Lord of the noontime
of chattering voices
laughter and fun
sparkling water
everyone
Lord of the evening
of quiet breeze
setting sun
gentle waters
day that's done

Commit each moment of this day to the Lord, both highs and lows. How do you react when things go wrong? Are you someone who can praise God for the good times as well as the bad?

I BELIEVE, O God of all gods,
That Thou art the eternal Father of life ;
I believe, O God of all gods.
That Thou art the eternal Father of love.
I believe, O God of all gods.
That Thou art the eternal Father of the saints ;
I believe, O God of all gods,
That Thou art the eternal Father of each one.
I believe, O God of all gods,
That Thou art the eternal Father of mankind ;
I believe, O God of all gods.
That Thou art the eternal Father of the world.

I believe, O Lord and God of the peoples,
That Thou art the creator of the high heavens,
That Thou art the creator of the skies above.
That Thou art the creator of the oceans below.

I believe, O Lord and God of the peoples,
That Thou art He Who created my soul and set its warp,
Who created my body from dust and from ashes.
Who gave to my body breath, and to my soul its possession.
Father, bless to me my body,
Father, bless to me my soul.
Father, bless to me my life.
Father, bless to me my belief.
Father eternal and Lord of the peoples,
I believe that Thou hast remedied my soul in the Spirit of healing,
That Thou gavest Thy loved Son in covenant for me.
That Thou hast purchased my soul with the precious blood of Thy Son.

(taken from Carmina Gadelica)

Listen if you have a minute to this Taize song - Jesus, remember me - and as you listen to the words and music just empty your mind of the coming day's fears and concerns

Listen to the words of the Psalmist:

Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies.
Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
(Psalm 34: 11-14)

And the words of an early Christian Archbishop:

" God has made for us two kinds of eyes: those of flesh and those of faith. When you come to the sacred initiation, the eyes of the flesh see water; the eyes of faith behold the Spirit. Those eyes see the body being baptized; these eyes see the old existence being buried. "
John Crysostom (?347-407) Archbishop of Constantinople and Church Father

My Lord and my God, take me from all that keeps me from thee.
My Lord and my God, grant me all that leads me to thee.
My Lord and my God, take me from myself and give me completely to thee

Nicholas of Flue (1417-87)
